A tragic case of a missing young woman has taken a grim turn, as the Edo State Police Command confirmed the arrest of 31-year-old Joshua Osaigbovo in connection with the alleged murder of 21-year-old Osato Festus Edogiaweria.
The suspect was taken into custody on June 18, 2025, after weeks of investigation by the police Family Unit and the State Criminal Investigations Department. According to police spokesperson CSP Moses Yamu, Osaigbovo confessed to killing the woman and burying her in a shallow grave near his home in the Iyanomon community, Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area.
The case began when Mrs. Ojo, the mother of the deceased, reported Osato missing at the Aduwawa Police Division on April 25. She told police that her daughter had left home five days earlier, on April 20, with a friend and never returned.
Following the transfer of the case to the SCID, investigators used a combination of intelligence gathering and technical tools to track down Osaigbovo. During interrogation, he allegedly admitted to inviting Osato to his residence on April 27. An argument reportedly broke out, leading to a violent struggle. Osaigbovo claimed Osato fell during the altercation, fatally striking her head on the floor.
In a chilling revelation, the suspect told police he transported her body in a wheelbarrow to a nearby bush and buried her in a shallow grave. On June 20, he led officers to the exact location, where Osato's remains were exhumed.
Her mobile phone was also recovered from the suspect, further linking him to the crime. CSP Yamu confirmed that all necessary forensic and legal procedures are underway and said Osaigbovo would be charged to court once investigations are concluded.
The news has sparked a wave of outrage and heartbreak on social media, particularly on TikTok, where users expressed horror over the incident and extended condolences to the grieving family.
The Edo State Police Command reiterated its commitment to ensuring justice is served and to continuing its crackdown on violent crimes across the state.
